Travelling can be super stressful – the packing, the
 
finances, the planning – and that's before you have
 
even considered bringing your furry companion along! A
 
trip with your pet can be a lot of fun, but it is more
 
work than travelling alone. Although it may seem as
 
though bringing your dog, Winslow, will add to your
 
stress, with careful planning, it really won't. In fact,
 
apart from not having to miss him and return to “who
 
knows what happened while you were gone?” Picking him
 
up from the kennel is one of the last things you want to
 
do when you get home. In all likelihood, two concerns
 
come to mind:
 
 
1. How do you even find a hotel that accepts pets?
 
 
2. How do you make it the least stressful on Winslow and
 
in turn least stressful on you?
 
 
Finding a Pet-Friendly Hotel This is a bit tougher to
 
navigate – Fewer and fewer hotels are pet friendly
 
these days. The first place to start is your old friend
 
Google. Type in ‘pet friendly hotels', ‘pet friendly
 
B&Bs' and ‘pet friendly motels' and then sort by
 
location, price and amenities. Having toys along is a
 
great way to keep your pet from doing any unintentional
 
damage to the hotel room. Having a chew toy along will
 
amuse Winslow and give him something to chew on besides
 
the bed, other furniture or electrical cords and other
 
things. Even if Winslow has grown out of the chewing
 
puppy stage, being in an unfamiliar place can cause a
 
little stress. Having his chew toy – whether it's a
 
bone, a deer antler or the Garfield the cat stuffed toy
 
– has his scent and yours to sooth him. Remembering
 
that both cats and dogs are more comfortable with
 
routine, walking Winslow at the same time each day
 
during your vacation will help minimize any stress. You
 
can be sure that by taking the time to organize ahead of
 
time, which minimizes damage to the hotel, you ensure
 
that the few remaining pet friendly hotels remaining
 
stay that way.
